connecting practitioners for a more inclusive society
We are very happy to welcome you to share your experiences, ideas and projects with your colleagues from across Europe working on participation and integration at local level.
Below you will find all resources that were produced at the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Berlin, 6 & 7 December 2012:
We invited 20 integration officers from across Europe to learn from each other, to connect on a professional level and to exchange on strategies, good practices and challenges. The aim is to boost international knowledge production and cooperation. The setup of the seminar will allow for you to use the diverse experience and knowledge of the participants in the room for the development of your own projects and issues.
Depending on your interests and the group’s dynamic the discussions may focus on:
- combating racism and xenophobia in times of crises
- intercultural opening of public administrations
- public participation of migrants at the local level
However, topics are not limited to these rubrics. We provide for you the space to address issues and projects that are of the highest importance to you.
How to prepare for the seminar?
The seminar is highly interactive and there are no classical presentations, keynotes, external experts or panel discussion. The seminar is about you and your experience and it is in your responsibility to decide with whom you want to talk and about what. To make the most out of it we would like to ask you to prepare in two steps before coming to Berlin:
1) Complete your poster and send it to us no later than Monday, 3 December. Please download the PDF and fill in your information. Then send back to us, together with a picture of you. We will print it (A4) for the participant’s gallery.
2) Be ready to talk about issues and projects that you carry out in your community and to be prepared to discuss the following questions with the other participants:
- What is your role in the administration and how do you relate to other administrative areas?
- Who are the partners and stakeholders you work with?
- What are the biggest challenges in your community and how do you tackle them?
- What kind of resources are available to you and where do you get them from?
- What are the topics and projects you currently work on and what do you plan for the future?
- How is your work related to the topics of racism, diversity management and public participation of migrants? What do you concretely do in these fields?
- What do you expect from the seminar, what would you like to share and learn?
Please think about issues and projects that you would like to share with the group. Understand the group as a resource to also help you with current challenges and projects.
Programme and Agenda
The INTEGRA Seminar will start Thursday, 6 December at 2pm and we open the registration at 1pm. We recommend that you register well before 2pm at the seminar venue. The Seminar will end on Friday, 7 December at 6pm. In addition to the seminar there will be a public event with public officials on Thursday evening from 6pm – 9pm. Both the seminar and the public event will take place in the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Conference Hall, Haus 2, Hiroshimastraße 28, 10785 Berlin (see map below).

The seminar comprises of individual and group working sessions including world-cafe, pro-action cafe, open space sessions and circle debates. The workshop is moderated by the facilitator Soledad Pons and Martin Wilhelm who will guide you through the seminar and help you identifying key points of interest and structuring your participation.
Travel and Accomodation
From either Schönefeld Airport (SXF), Airport Tegel (TXL) or Hauptbahnhof (main station) there is public transport to the hotel at Lützowplatz and the seminar venue nearby. One ticket, valid for two hours in one direction costs 2,40€. If you arrive at Schönefeld Airport (SXF) it will be 3,10€. Please be aware that you cannot pay with your credit card in busses or the subway. Check here for public transport connections.

You will stay in the Hotel Berlin in single rooms, breakfast is served. The room is reserved on your name, please bring your national ID/passport to the check-in. Please let us know if you have any special need concerning food intolerance or allergies. Vegetarian and fish dishes are always available.
